Perspective.

For much of my life I’ve been searching for the key to true Christianity. I knew it couldn’t be what I’d observed for so many years. I was sure there must be more to it. When I cringed by seeing loved-ones affected by judgment, I was called a liberal. When I was hurt by seeing pious rejection, I was called wishy-washy. When I wanted no part of self-righteous rebuke, I was accused of having loose morals. The teaching was to “see things from God’s pint of view”. An assignment I remember so well as a teenager (by a popular Christian leader) was to go to the mall and watch the people passing by. Look at their faces. Look at their clothing. Look at their mannerisms and make assessments about their situation in life. We were taught to judge. To see these people from “God’s point of view”.

Brandon Heath sings a song called “Give Me Your Eyes”. Here are some of the lyrics: “All those people going somewhere.

Why have I never cared?
Give me your eyes for just one second.
Give me your eyes so I can see,
Everything that I keep missing.
Give me your love for humanity.
Give me your arms for the broken hearted,
The ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me you heart for the ones forgotten.
Give me your eyes so I can see…”

Man-o-man… what a stark contrast to the “fundamental”-group mindset.
